Change department name

Is there a way to change the name of a department? I can add a new department and reassign users, but this is tedious and leaves open the possibility of the old department name accidentally being assigned to a user.

Hi Joshua! Thanks for the post, and welcome to the Ramp Community.

Yes – you can rename a department. The right steps depend on how your departments are managed:

  • If you manage departments in Ramp: Rename directly in Ramp. Select the department → Edit → update the name → Save. (make sure to check there isn’t a duplicate with the old name and archive it so no one can pick the outdated option.)

  • If your departments sync from an HRIS: Rename the department in your HRIS so the new name then flows into Ramp.

Charlotte,

Thanks for the assist. Knowing it was possible to rename them made me try again. I had to click on a person in the People tab, then click the Department field there.

I did find there is a page where all departments are listed (Ramp — The corporate card that helps you spend less) but I’m not sure if this is exposed as a link directly in the UI. If it is, I wasn’t able to find it.
