Introducing Ramp Sheets by Ramp Labs: AI spreadsheet editor for finance teams

Hi everyone,

We’re excited to share something new from the Ramp Labs team: Ramp Sheets, an experimental AI spreadsheet editor built to 10x how finance teams work.

The Vision
Ramp’s core platform has always been about freeing you from the grind: coding, reconciling, and chasing receipts. But we know that once the admin work is gone, the high-value strategic work begins.

We built Sheets to give you superpowers for that strategic work. Whether it’s budgeting, forecasting, or scenario analysis, Sheets can hopefully speed up your traditional Excel workflows.

What it does:
You can upload any Excel file or CSV and work in your familiar editor, powered by an AI agent. The agent can:

  1. Search the web
  2. Write complex formulas automatically
  3. Format messy exports into clean, auditable models
  4. Answer questions about your data instantly

An experimental step forward
Ramp Sheets is an experiment from a small team at Ramp Labs. It is AI-native, meaning it’s powerful, but not perfect. We are shipping updates and improvements every single week, and we want to build the future of this product alongside you.

Try it for free today → ramp.com/sheets

We’d love to hear how it handles your workflows and where we can improve. Drop your feedback in the comments or let us know what you think!

Thanks. How is our company data protected/handled in this application?

Great question! None of your data is ever used to train any models. Your data remains your property and is processed exclusively to deliver the service to you; it is never aggregated, sold, or repurposed. You can review the full Terms of Service and Privacy Policy here:

Hi,

Not to be rude, but I’m struggling to see the benefit in this product. Does it somehow integrate with Ramp or is it a standalone product? It seems like this is just reinventing the wheel that’s Excel or google sheets. As a piece of constructive criticism, I’d like to think that Ramp should focus on ironing out the issues in its credit card and bill pay platforms before taking on seemingly superfluous projects like this. For example, its been nearly 1.5 years since a user posted about paying only a portion of a bill and this fundamental feature of a bill pay system still hasn’t been rolled out. Furthermore, another dealbreaking feature for me is the ability to create bills with items in the line level. For some reason this is only available for a few select ERP integrations and not a custom API. Again, a fundamental feature which I would think should be prioritized before a product like this.

I want to emphasize that I really love the Ramp platform and the work that’s being put in. I just think that existing products should be prioritized in development before rolling out completely new things. It’s frustrating to see that this is not how things are moving.

Thank you for pointing this out Steven, I appreciate the frustration I hear in your comment. I feel your frustration, as I am just as frustrated. Please fix the major issues rather than trying to change our focus with new toys, just fix the issues with the software we already are using daily.

I’m hoping the Ramp team sees these messages and turns into a wakeup call for them to focus their energy on the community’s issues and needs.

Hi Steven and Wendy,

Thank you both for the honest and constructive feedback. I completely understand the frustration here – that it’s annoying to see new experimental tools launch, when fundamental workflows you rely on daily still have friction. I want to make sure you feel heard on this. To offer some transparency on how we are building: Ramp Labs is a very small, separate team dedicated to these specific experimental AI bets. This work happens in parallel to our core engineering efforts, meaning we are not pulling resources or focus away from the teams dedicated to ironing our Bill Pay and Credit Card reliability. We are listening, and the core team is actively working on the requests you mentioned:

  • Partial Payments: We have good news here – this is scheduled for an Alpha release in January. We know this has been a long-awaited feature, and our team is working hard to create the best version of this for you all. We appreciate your continued patience.
  • Line-Level Items: I want to make sure your specific constraints here are understood by the right people.

Next Steps: @Steven_Rosen - I would love to connect you directly to our Product team. I can set up a quick thread or call to:

  1. Get you on the list for the Partial Payments Alpha in January. (would you both like this?)
  2. Have you share your feedback on line-level creation directly with the person building the roadmap.

Wendy, I believe you are connecting with our team later this week. If you’d also like to be connected to our Bill Pay team, please let me know! We value your business and your patience as we scale.

Best,
Alex

Hi Alex,

I would love to be a part of the alpha launch of partial payments. Regarding line level items, I would also like to connect with the person building the roadmap. I’ve already tried posting about this issue in the community as well direct messaging the product manager of bill pay and received no response on this. So any guidance would be appreciated.

Thanks

Just emailed you!

@Steven_Rosen - this was my exact thought when I saw this rolling out. I tested it, and even the example of analyzing a company and breaking down their financials into standard financial statements didn’t work as it should. There’s no way I’m using this over Google Sheets with integrated Gemini AI. Why would Ramp waste resources on a pet side project that is so far outside their core product? Last time I checked, Ramp isn’t a multi-billion dollar ubiquitous company that can afford to lose a few million just to satisfy some random developer’s curiosity.

Hi Eric, thank you for your input here. A few things that you may find helpful:

  1. We’ve been really encouraged by the various ways we’re seeing thousands of customers use and find value in Ramp Sheets. While it may feel like a nascent project today, foundations of this work will power future core product experiences to help customers increase productivity, launching next year.
  2. Our Ramp Labs team is hosting a live Reddit AMA tomorrow to dive deeper into this feature, how it works, and how it differs from tools like Google Sheets. Very timely! You can join or follow along here: Reddit AMA
  3. We’d love to better understand the specific improvements or functionality you’re hoping to see. I haven’t seen any specific feature requests or wishlist posts yet, so if you have ideas in mind - or are open to sharing what would be most impactful for your team - I’m happy to set up time with you and a few members of our Product team to talk through it in more detail. Bill Pay, Spend, Accounting, etc, you name it.
