I was actually surprised that no other accountants seemed to have brought this up before, but is there any way possible to disable the custom transaction numbers Ramp assigns to journal entries from being added to the transaction sync with Quickbooks?
It obviously wouldn’t be such an issue if Ramp didn’t use journal entries to import Treasury account transactions like transfers and cash back deposits, but since they do, it would save me so much extra work every month if Ramp could implement a feature like other QBO integration tools I use already allow, which is the option to defer transaction numbers to whatever the QBO file is already sequentially doing.
I know this is partly on Intuit too, because they could add an internal setting of their own to restrict custom transaction numbers for journal entries the way they allow for sales transactions like invoices and sales receipts, but since they don’t offer that, it’s super appreciated when software developers create a work around that lets QBO assign the JE transaction numbers according to whatever format is in place in the customer file.
The reason this is important is because all of my clients are set up on a very specific JE numbering sequence that automatically progresses numerically with each new transaction that is created, but it’s only as good as the most recent transaction number saved, because QBO will always continue whatever the last numerical sequence was. So when a JE comes in from Ramp with the transaction number c18ea223-606c-4e7e-ac, QBO just starts my next transaction numbers with c18ea223-606c-4e7e-ac1, c18ea223-606c-4e7e-ac2, c18ea223-606c-4e7e-ac3, and so on.
Since it is way more work to reference a saved report template to find whatever was the previous real JE number in the books and force the next in the sequence every single time I am posting a new manual journal entry, I have just stopped doing this in real time and instead added an entire new step to my month-end closes where I open each individual JE from the previous month and number them correctly one-by-one.
I can’t tell you how thrilled I would be if there were some way better integrate or accept the books’ existing JE numbering sequence for Ramp imports, because that is my only significant pain point in a platform that otherwise works pretty flawlessly. I love the product and would hope that I could continue using it with my clients without it actually adding more work to my plate. Thanks for any feedback you can provide!
