@critter - thanks for asking! Yes - our Engineering team is currently working on it. Bookkeepers will be able to use the Ramp for Excel app in the next few months
The Ramp for Excel plugin sounded very appealing, but I was expecting a bit more.
Instead of just loading the transaction details into a new sheet, I was expecting that it would allow me to build PivotTables and PivotCharts connected directly to the RAMP data online that I could refresh (e.g. like providing a PowerBI dataset / or something similar). That would have allowed to create custom Excel dashboards for all types of things that refresh with the click of a button.
Maybe there still is a way, is the API that the Excel App uses available to be used directly by users? Then I could use PowerBI with PowerQuery to download and refresh all the data daily and build my own dashboard based on that. I already tried to do that with the official API, but the data is quite nested within the JSON structure that it takes a bit of time to transform every into a simple table. Whereas this Ramp for Excel tool spits out everything nicely into one table.
Thanks for the feedback Robert! Although the Ramp for Excel API is not available for use at the moment, we are actively working on the ability to pull data once and have it refresh regularly in order to be able to create ‘live’ dashboards right in Excel.
I really like the new much more flexible submission policy builder.
What is still missing though, is to be able to select other accounting fields as the basis for a condition. Meaning if the user starts to fill out one of the accounting fields, some other accounting fields might become mandatory
e.g. If Accounting Category = Event Expenses make the optional accounting field “Accounting Event Name” mandatory
Totally agree @RHOU . This type of conditionality in expense coding would be revolutionary and seems fairly straightforward (i.e. Transaction can’t be “Approved” or “Marked Ready” until those conditions are met).
And even better if those relationships between Accounting Fields could be automated! I.e., if Accounting Field A = X, then Accounting Field B is automatically updated to Y.
I’d like to +1 this on the conditional expense coding. For example, if our employee selects a T&E account I want to make a project code mandatory, or if there is an expense tagged to Sales, and also booked to say “client entertainment,” I want to make the Customer field to be mandatory. Basically, we want to direct the employee to any field or action based on their selection. It’s like a choose your own adventure novel.
Appreciate your feedback on this coding use case. I shared with our product team who confirmed we have “conditional coding” on our roadmap, expected to go live by the end of this year for customers on Ramp Plus!
Conditional coding will give customers the ability to define whether a submission field is required based on a previous selection. Hope this helps!
Another feedback, I was hoping that with the customizability of the CSV export, i could now finally add fields that were missing before. But it looks like that is still not possible.
What do I want to add?
the name of trip that the transactions was linked to
any fields that are on the linked trip (e.g. start date, end date, custom fields, etc.)
the attendees that is used for the per diem (so if a lunch was bought for 3 people, i want to be able to export the name of these 3 people in a single column separated by ,)
Is there a plan to add these fields to UCSV as well?
Hi Robert, my name is Ale and I’m a product manager here at Ramp. We’ve added the ability to include Attendees in a single column and it should be an option on the customizable CSV. We will keep track of the request to add the trip and trip detail fields as options as well.
