Using Ramp Virtual Cards During the Holiday Season

How to Use Ramp Virtual Cards for Holiday Parties, Gifts, and Year-End Cheer

The holiday season is right around the corner– with it comes a flurry of festive gatherings, thoughtful gifts, and end-of-year celebrations. Ramp is here to make the process seamless, allowing you to focus on creating meaningful moments instead of juggling missing receipts and team overspending.

One of the simplest ways to streamline holiday spending is by using Ramp virtual cards, which allow you to control budgets, share spend with the right team members, and set restrictions that keep spending aligned with your plans.

Creating Virtual Cards for Holiday Spending

Ready to get started? Here’s a quick breakdown or follow along with the video below:

Setting Up Virtual Cards for the Holiday

Begin by navigating to Manage Spend in your Ramp dashboard. From there, click on Funds in the dropdown menu, then select the yellow Issue button in the top-right corner.

Select ‘Virtual Card’ from the options to start creating a card tailored to your holiday needs.

Be sure to give your card a clear, festive title– something like Holiday Party, Team Gifts, or Client Appreciation. Then set the spending limit for this fund, ensuring it covers everything your team needs.

Next, scroll down to the Advanced Controls section. If multiple people on your team will be making holiday purchases, select Share to add those users. Each person added will receive their own virtual card number, all connected to the same total fund limit you set. This ensures everyone has access to the budget without the chaos of sharing a single card.

Fine-Tune Spending Controls

Once your card is created, it’s time to fine-tune the spending rules. Ramp allows you to set spending controls and restrictions, so your holiday budget stays focused.

For example, if you want all purchases made through Starbucks (say, for gift card purchases), you can select Add Restrictions, choose Allowed Merchants, and then pick Amazon from the list. Once saved, the card can only be used with that merchant. It’s that simple.

You can also set an auto-lock date, which ensures that all purchases are completed before a certain deadline. This is perfect if gifts need to be purchased by year-end or if holiday event supplies need to be purchased before a specific deadline.

And if you want to keep individual expenses within a certain range– such as capping all gifts at $100– you can set a maximum expense amount under card controls. This helps maintain consistency across your gifting strategy.

Celebrate With Ease

Once everything is configured the way you like it, simply issue the card(s) and let the holiday magic begin–

At Ramp, we’re here to help you spend smarter, celebrate bigger, and enjoy the season without the stress. Cheers to a joyful, well-organized holiday season!
